Navigate, Welcome, Fortify, Surrender, Save, Listen, Make Mistakes.
These are some of the messages renowned artist Nikki McClure
affirms in this gorgeous monograph of her papercuts. Organized by
season, McClure's work reminds us of the important things such as
the change of seasons, slowing down the world for a moment so we
can actually experience it, and looking up at the stars to dream.
In a follow-up to her gorgeous monograph Collect Raindrops, You Are
Not Too Late is a collection of McClure's original papercuts that
have appeared in her beloved yearly calendars. All cut from a
single piece of black paper with an X-Acto knife, McClure's artwork
features compelling images of everyday life, often accompanied by a
powerful verb that inspires the viewer to action.
In this tender board book, a kitten practices the basics of feline
behavior over the course of a day. A single word of text per spread
teaches readers "how to be a cat"-how to stretch, clean, pounce,
feast-while the striking paper cuts illustrate the kitten's
attempts to imitate an adult cat's mastery of each skill. At times,
the kitten triumphantly succeeds, and at other times the kitten
struggles, in vignettes that range from whimsical to profound. A
celebration of all things feline, How to Be a Cat also tells a
universal story of mastering life skills, and of the loving
relationship between parent and child.
This board book features Nikki McClure's collection of alphabet
paper cuts. Each paper cut features a baby exploring the world in
some way and is accompanied by a letter of the alphabet through the
letter N, at which point, the baby nods off to sleep. This is a
high-concept alphabet book; beautiful enough that adults would want
to buy it but also accessible to children.
Now completely revised and updated, with full-color photographs and
family-friendly recipes throughout. The deeply personal story of a
father learning to share his love of nature with his children, not
through the indoor lens of words or pictures, but directly,
palpably, by exploring the natural world as they forage, cook and
eat from the woods and sea. This compelling, masterfully written
tale follows Dylan Tomine and his family through four seasons as
they hunt chanterelles, fish for salmon, dig clams and gather at
the kitchen table, mouths watering, to enjoy the fruits of their
labor. Closer to the Ground captures the beauty and surprise of the
natural world -- and the ways it teaches us how to live -- with
humor, gratitude and a nose for adventure as keen as a child's. It
is a book filled with weather, natural history and many delicious
meals.
